Belarus-India trade up by more than quarter in last three years

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – In the last three years Belarus-India trade rose by more than a quarter. Deputy Chairwoman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Yelena Malinovskaya mentioned the fact during negotiations between Belarusian and Indian business circles, BelTA has learned.

More than 80 specialists from Belarusian enterprises attended the meeting with representatives of Indian companies. It confirms the mutual interest and great potential for expanding business cooperation.

During the B2B negotiations various matters concerning education, pharmaceutics, light industry, information technology, and logistics were discussed.

“The economies of Belarus and India are mutually complementary. Over the past three years the bilateral trade turnover between Belarus and India grew by more than a quarter. Foreign trade between the countries is diversified. Belarus supplies the Indian market with chemical products, primarily potash fertilizers, wood products, light industry goods, and especially Belarusian flax. Indian electrical goods, food products, and textiles are popular on the Belarusian market,” noted Yelena Malinovskaya.

One of the promising areas is pharmaceutics and medications. India is the third largest producer of medications in the world, with a 10% share of the global pharmaceutical market. Belarus has also kept its pharmaceutical industries and they are under state control.

By the way, a representative delegation of Indian pharmaceutical companies is expected to visit Belarus in March. Belarusian and Indian companies will share best practices and discuss partnership opportunities in the field of pharmaceutics and biotechnology at a single venue.

There are many areas for mutually beneficial cooperation, including education, tourism (direct flights twice a week), IT sector, agriculture, and logistics.

As part of the business negotiations in a solemn ceremony Yelena Malinovskaya presented a certificate of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s representative in India to Rajiv Podar, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Podar Enterprise.
