
MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Belarus has cropped over 1.5 million tonnes of sugar beet, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
“Sugar beet has been harvested from 30% of the area, which amounts to 32,000 hectares. The harvest has yielded 1,517,000 tonnes of sugar beet with an average yield 23.1 centners per hectare higher than last year's figure,” the ministry said.
Some 290,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested, with the average yield going 16.8 centners per hectare above last year.
A total of 48,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested nationwide. The sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 40% already harvested.
As of 24 September, some 9,020,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast - 2.262 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.746 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.688 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.268 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.052 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1,004,000 tonnes.
Belarus has harvested 99% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize not taken into account), which makes up 2,403,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 8.2 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level. Some 672,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 96% of the target.
Belarusian farmers have sown winter grain crops on 804,000 hectares, which accounts for 54% of the planned area.
The yield for processed flax straw stands at 112,000 tonnes, or 45.4 centners per hectare, an increase of 11.6 tonnes per hectare over last year.
Maize for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 35% of the area, which is 330,000 hectares. Some 520,000 tonnes of hay (72% of the plan) and 13.582 million tonnes of haylage (97% of the plan) have been prepared so far. Forage production has reached 6.148 million tonnes (61% of the target).
