Belarus harvests near 4.4m tonnes of sugar beet

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarus has harvested over 4.39 million tonnes of sugar beet from 90,900 hectares of sown areas (or 87.4%), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The national yield of sugar beet averaged 483 centners per hectare. As of 4 November, Belarusian agricultural enterprises threshed over 10.21 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed. Minsk Oblast topped the chart with 2,845.8 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, harvested. It was followed by Grodno Oblast (with 2,296.1 million tonnes), Brest Oblast (2,078.8 million tonnes), Mogilev Oblast (1,122.4 million tonnes), Gomel Oblast (1,001.4 million tonnes), and Vitebsk Oblast (873,500 tonnes).

Belarus also cropped more than 2.3 million tonnes of grain maize, with the yield amounting to 78.6 centners per hectare. A total of 296,400 hectares of areas planted to grain maize were harvested (95.4% of the plan). Over 21.2 million tonnes of maize green mass with a yield of 226 centners per hectare were removed. Maize for silage and green fodder was harvested on the area of 938,500 hectares (or 99.7% of the harvested area).

A total of 152,200 tonnes of vegetables were harvested, yielding 361.5 centners per hectare (excluding vegetable peas). About 5,200 hectares of sown areas were harvested (98,4% of the plan).

The harvesting of grass fodder continues. In total, over 9.45 million tonnes of forage units have been harvested (96.3% of the plan).

Soil tillage is completed on the area of 635,800 hectares (42.8% of the plan). The tillage for sowing of linen flax is 79.1% complete, for sowing of sugar beet is 43.2% complete.
