MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) - Thousands of Belarusian machines were officially handed over to Nigeria during a visit of a Belarusian government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich, BelTA has learned.

“The red ribbon has been cut: Belarus presented the president of Nigeria with a symbolic key to mark the completion of the first stage of the roadmap. The head of the African state said this is only the beginning. Viktor Karankevich also extended an invitation from our president for the Nigerian president to visit Belarus, and Bola Tinubu accepted it,” the Belarusian Government press service noted.

Viktor Karankevich called the event a milestone in Belarus-Nigeria relations. “The official handover of Belarusian equipment took place as part of the roadmap signed between Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Government of Belarus. The roadmap is already yielding results. Today’s event is a significant contribution to strengthening Nigeria’s food security and improving the well-being of its citizens. The participation of the president of Nigeria once again emphasizes the importance placed on developing our bilateral relations. The same level of attention is shown by the Belarusian leader. All matters related to the implementation of the roadmap have been under the close supervision of our president. A foundation has been laid for friendly, brotherly relations between the two countries, built on trust, mutual respect, and equality,” he emphasized.

As part of the second and third stages of the roadmap, modern service centers will be established, equipped with mobile teams that will provide maintenance and repair services for machinery. “Plans also include the creation of assembly facilities. The construction of grain drying complexes is under consideration. Training personnel, both to operate the equipment and to perform repairs and assembly using Belarusian kits, is also on the agenda,” Viktor Karankevich remarked.

During the visit, the Belarusian delegation is scheduled to hold meetings and negotiations on a variety of topics, ranging from education to trade. Viktor Karankevich outlined several promising areas of cooperation with Nigeria: “These include the supply of agricultural machinery, a comprehensive approach to developing the agro-industrial complex, and the modernization of Nigeria’s agriculture. Other areas under consideration include healthcare, the supply of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, and increasing the number of Nigerian students studying at our educational institutions,” he added.

Contacts, contracts, mutual respect, and common interests are what now connect Belarus with many African nations. Despite the distance, countries on different continents understand that Belarus is not limited to exporting goods: the dialogue is built on partnership and mutually beneficial terms, the press service stressed.
