MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Belarus has been granted the right to export turkey meat to China, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.
The protocol that officially allows Belarusian enterprises to ship turkey meat to the Chinese market was signed during an official visit of Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Smilgin to Shanghai. The matter was discussed during bilateral negotiations between the Belarusian delegation and the leadership of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.
The document stipulates the reconciled requirements for veterinary and sanitary control, certification and conditions of manufacturing. It confirms the high level of trust in Belarus’ food safety management system. Getting access to the Chinese market of turkey meat is a step of strategic importance for Belarusian producers. China is one of the world’s largest importers of meat products and getting access to this market opens up new opportunities for diversifying export, increasing the output, and reinforcing positions of Belarus’ agribusiness in the international arena, the press service said.

The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry will continue working to prepare enterprises for certification and to launch shipments as soon as possible.
Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Smilgin took part in the second conference on stepping up cooperation, on facilitating trade in agricultural products and food within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative. The conferences are held every two years and bring together representatives of partner countries for the sake of tackling the issues relating to the safety of food products, the removal of trade barriers, and the development of mutually beneficial agrarian cooperation.
The Belarusian delegation took part in signing a charter on safety procedures during food import and export. It creates a platform for prompt information sharing, consultations, and joint response to emergencies in the sphere of food security between all the participants of the initiative.
