MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Some 10 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
“As of 24 October, some 10,047,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus, up 350,000 tonnes year-on-year,” the press service said.
The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.486 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.003 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.960 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.319 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.233 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.046 million tonnes.
Belarus has harvested 92% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,137,000 hectares.
Average grain yield (including corn) is 4.9 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level. Some 686,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 98% of the target.
The harvest of flax straw totals 188,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 12.9 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.
Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 88% of the area, which is 896,000 hectares. So far Belarus has harvested 13.824 million tonnes of haylage (99% of the plan), 17.881 million tonnes of silage (86% of the plan) and 9.110 million tonnes of grass forage units (91% of the plan).
Sugar beet has been harvested from 71% of the area. The harvest has yielded 3,879,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 38.9 centners per hectare higher than last year.
The potato harvest has reached 668,000 tonnes.
Nationwide, 166,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 83% of it cropped now.
Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 346,000 hectares, representing 24% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
