Belarus’ grain harvest past 6m tonnes

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Some 6 million tonnes of grain has been threshed in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 14 August, some 6,179,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus.

The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast harvested 1.498 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast 1.264 million tonnes, Minsk Oblast 1.432 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast 732,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast 738,000 tonnes, and Vitebsk Oblast 515,000 tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 63% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize not taken into account), which makes up 1,273,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 8 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

Some 293,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 42% of the target, along with 93,000 tonnes of rapeseed oilseeds, fulfilling 98% of the plan.

Winter rapeseed for grain has been sown across 103,000 hectares, representing 23% of the planned area.

Flax has been pulled from 32,000 hectares, accounting for 67% of the planned area.

Second-cut grasses have been mowed on 926,000 hectares, 87% of the target.

Some 336,000 tonnes of hay (47% of the plan) and 11.660 million tonnes of haylage (84% of the plan) have been prepared so far, including 376,000 tonnes stored in polymer packaging.

Forage production has reached 3.544 million tonnes (35% of target).
