Belarus government programs net over $33bn in export earnings over three years

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus received over $33 billion in export earnings over the course of three years thanks to the implementation of projects and measures envisaged by government programs, BelTA learned from Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar.

Government programs represent the most important tool for reaching goals, accomplishing tasks, and securing priorities of Belarus’ social and economic development, Yuri Chebotar noted. The government pays close attention to the matter in addition to keeping an eye on progress of implementation and effectiveness of these programs.

“Thanks to them over the last three years we’ve invested over Br40 billion in infrastructure, in the modernization of existing enterprises and the establishment of new ones. Over $33 billion in export earnings was received thanks to the realization of various projects within the framework of government program. Government programs account for 82% of the budget expenses of our state. But these are generic figures. The population cares more about growth,” the economy minister said.

He referred to the government program “Comfortable housing and favorable environment” as an example. “Within the framework of this program over the course of three years 46 populated localities have improved the quality of drinking water. We’ve built over 500 water deferrization stations and over 30 water treatment facilities. And it was done within the framework of only one program,” Yuri Chebotar pointed out.

He also talked about results of the government program on small and medium businesses. “Thanks to this program over the three years we’ve provided support to over 550 commercial entities and have created 700 additional jobs. All of it is results and efficiency of implementation of every program,” the economy minister stressed.

Yuri Chebotar remarked that there are issues with a number of medium-efficiency programs, in particular, government programs on digitization and agribusiness.

The improvement of government programs is very important for the economic development of the country. This is why a special commission convenes every month to review efficiency and realization of every project, the spending of money and to give appropriate recommendations.

By the way, discipline with regard to spending money as part of government programs is improving, the economy minister added.
