Belarus government grain procurement target almost met

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian government has procured 787,000 tonnes of grain, which accounts for 96.6% of the country's grain procurement target for 2019, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Three regions have already met the target, namely Brest Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast and Minsk Oblast.

The government has procured 54,100 tonnes of brewing barley, or over 64% of the target.

According to the operational data of the ministry, Belarus has cut almost 90% of the areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize included), harvested around 6.556 million tonnes of grain. The avergae yield is 31.2 centners per hectare.

Belarusian farmers have cut 2.500 hectares of maize, which represents some 1% of the cropping areas which stand at 231,000 hectares this year. As of today the maize grain harvest is almost 19,000 tonnes, the average yield at 74.1 centners per hectare.
