MINSK, 6 May(BelTA) - According to the preliminary data, Belarus' gold and foreign currency reserves totaled $7,761.7 billion as of 1 May 2022, BelTA learned from the Information and PR Department of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
In April 2022, the country's gold and foreign currency reserves went up by $189.4 million (or 2.5%) following the March decrease of $692.9 million (8.4%).
"The volume of gold and foreign exchange reserves increased in April mainly due to the purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank at the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange," the National Bank said.
In April the government honored the foreign and domestic obligations in foreign currency in the amount of over $70 million. The volume of international reserves was also affected by the reassessment of IMF Special Drawing Right assets.
According to the country's monetary guidelines for 2022, the volume of international reserve assets is expected to make up at least $7 billion on 1 January 2023.
