MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Belarus supplies peat products to 18 countries, Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko said ahead of the ministry’s collegium meeting, BelTA has learned.
“It is important to highlight the achievements of our peat industry. We extract about two million tonnes of peat per year. Belarus is among the world’s leaders in terms of peat extraction and processing. The product is mainly sold on the domestic market. Half of the output is consumed by three Belarusian cement plants. Peat products are also used by housing and utilities services, the energy sector, and by people to heat their homes,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.
Peat products are also supplied to foreign markets. “In total, we supply peat products to 18 countries, including China, Russia, Türkiye and Georgia. Last year we exported 120,000 tonnes of peat products worth about $10 million,” the minister stated.
Belarus is one of the world's top peat producers and a leader in peat briquettes manufacturing.
