Belarus’ energy minister calls cooperation with foreign partners best response to sanctions

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Cooperation with foreign partners is Belarus' best response to sanctions, Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko said during the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

"This forum was first held in 1995. It was rather difficult period for our state. At that time, a highly efficient energy sector was necessary for the rapid development of the national economy. Thanks to the strategic decisions made by the Belarusian president and with the support of the government, a number of large-scale projects have been implemented, which allowed the Belarusian energy system to reach the highest level. The forum was developing together with the industry. The range of issues discussed and the number of participants were growing," the minister said.

This year the forum will highlight import substitution, energy efficiency, environment, digitalization, training of engineering personnel, scientific and technical cooperation and other matters.

"This year the forum has brought together over 200 enterprises and organizations. We intend to discuss various conceptual innovative approaches. Both the Belarusian and foreign companies show growing interest in the forum. This year we welcomed over 30 Russian companies and companies from China and Iran us. This is a decent response to the sanctions. We show that cooperation not only helps us to maintain a certain level of energy efficiency, but also to develop together with our partners and allies," Aleksei Kushnarenko stated.

The forum is featuring the international exhibition “Energy. Environment. Energy Saving. Electro” (Energy Expo), the Salon of Innovative Transport E-Trans, and the specialized sections Innovative Industrial Technologies, Atomexpo-Belarus, Technologies for Petrochemical Industry, ExpoLight, Water and Air Technologies, ExpoCity. This year the exhibition is notable for its interactivity: a lot of achievements are displayed with the help of virtual reality. The forum will also feature a brain-ring contest among energy and gas supplying organizations and universities of the country in energy efficiency, environment, and energy saving.

The forum has been organized by the Belarusian Energy Ministry together with stakeholders. Rosatom State Corporation is an official partner of the event.
