Belarus, Egypt expanding cooperation in standardization

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The State Committee for Standardization of Belarus and the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality discussed cooperation areas, the State Committee for Standardization told BelTA after the meeting between Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization Valentin Tataritsky and Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality Ashraf Ismail Afify during a business forum in Cairo.

“The parties discussed a draft action plan to implement the memorandum of cooperation in standardization and information support, signed on 18 June 2019. The document provides for the exchange of information on legislative acts (in terms of technical regulation, standardization, conformity assessment), as well as catalogs, information indexes of standards. Plans are in place to organize seminars, trainings, and expert visits,” the press service said.

The parties agreed to sign the action plan in H2 2020 as part of a visit of Egyptian specialists to Belarus. The talks approved a proposal to conclude an agreement between the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality with the Belarusian State Institute for Standardization and Certification to develop cooperation in reproduction and dissemination of national standards.

At the Belarusian-Egyptian business forum Valentin Tataritsky made a presentation on the access of products to the market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Belarus. In his words, Belarus, together with its partners in the EAEU, has made significant efforts to build a single system of technical regulation. Some 48 unified technical regulations of the EAEU have already been adopted. 43 of them have come into force. The requirements of the technical regulations apply to the products of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, light, food and chemical industries, and so on. Another 12 new documents are in the pipeline. If the products comply with the requirements of the technical regulations, uniform conformity certificates and declarations are issued, which have the right for movement within the EAEU member states.
