MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Belarus is intent on shipping more freight via Astrakhan ports. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko mentioned it as he met with Governor of Russia's Astrakhan Oblast Igor Babushkin in Astrakhan, BelTA has learned.
Roman Golovchenko said: “When we met in Minsk in December 2021, we only mentioned this direction as a promising one for Belarusian freight and for our logistic companies. The export of Belarusian cargoes via Astrakhan ports was virtually zero back then. But now we ship about 90,000 tonnes of freight. It is shipped via the Astrakhan sea port and via Armada.”
The prime minister stressed: “It is only the beginning because in line with the agreement the governments of Belarus and Russia have signed, the volume of Belarusian freight that can and should be shipped via Astrakhan ports will be 650,000-850,000 tonnes next year. I think it is quite a good figure. We have to do serious work in order to reach it. Belarus is seriously intent on using the Caspian corridor North-South in the interests of Belarusian exporters.”
