Belarus eager to export more food to China

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Belarus intends to export more food to China. Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar mentioned the plans as he delivered a report at a session of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China, the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.

Yuri Chebotar talked about stronger bilateral cooperation, the realization of previously reached agreements and sketched out promising avenues of future joint actions.

“As far as mutual trade is concerned, we are intent on increasing the export of Belarusian food and agricultural products to the Chinese market. Taking into account these plans intensive work is in progress to bolster cooperation in transportation by rail and to invigorate direct air service. As for investments, the indisputable priorities are technological cooperation and manufacturing cooperation. The Belarusian government has identified about 70 potential joint projects, which will be added to the existing pool of business ideas. Apart from that, we expect significant economic effects from enforcing our agreement on trade in services and on making investments and from implementing the strategy on developing the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone till 2030,” the official said.

Stronger cooperation between regions represents another strategic area. “At present every oblast and the country’s capital have about three twinned regions in the People’s Republic of China. An extensive legislative framework has been formed. As many as 11 detailed plans on trade and economic cooperation have been signed. Another three are being reconciled. Plans for this year and for the next year include the organization of a series of exhibitions of twinned regions in Belarus at premises of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. In our opinion, these events will allow bolstering the existing commercial ties and establishing new business contacts,” the economy minister added.
