Belarus dismisses reports of electricity export to Lithuania

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Reports about the supply of electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant to Lithuania are not true, the Belarusian Energy Ministry said while commenting on the information published by Lithuanian media and some Belarusian internet resources that 12% of the electricity consumed in Lithuania is produced at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (‎€11 million per month), BelTA has learned.

“Lithuanian MPs and officials appear to be closely monitoring energy import flows and analyzing costs. There would be nothing wrong with that if they did not start pouring accusations against the Belarusian nuclear power plant again. Once again, they revert to the mantra that the Belarusian nuclear power plant is the cause of serious financial losses and a threat to Lithuania's financial well-being. To corroborate their statements they cite some data on Lithuania's alleged consumption of electricity produced by the Belarusian nuclear power plant. This is not true,” the Energy Ministry noted.

In turn the Belarusian ministry suggests visiting the website of the Lithuanian operator Litgrid which publishes the data on commercial electricity flow from Belarus. It is zero, following Lithuania's decision to stop importing Belarusian electricity.

"In the wake of repeated failed attempts to discredit the Belarusian nuclear power plant project, Lithuania has now decided to spread false information. After all, fakes seem to be in trend," the Energy Ministry noted.

"Since the connection to the national power grid the BelNPP first unit has produced the first billion kWh of electricity. This electricity was used to meet domestic electricity needs," the Energy Ministry informed.
