Belarus, Russia's Dagestan to cooperate in import substitution

MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Dagestan have plans to cooperate in import substitution, Chairman of the State Property Committee of Belarus Dmitry Matusevich told journalists after he met with Head of the Republic of Dagestan Sergei Melikov in Makhachkala, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Property Committee.

Cooperation between Belarus and Dagestan is developing dynamically. “This year so far the trade has grown by at least 30%. Import substitution remains an important area of focus not only for the Russian side, but also for Belarus,” he said.

The head of the State Property Committee noted that food products and building materials, such as glass, account for a big share in bilateral trade. “We have discussed this matter with the regional authorities and plan to move further in this direction. Ideally, we should keep each other updated about our needs, for example, for spare parts or when it comes to strategic projects,” said Dmitry Matusevich.

He believes that now is the time to build factories to produce specialized agricultural machinery in Dagestan, as well as to build up capacities for the repair and maintenance of Belarusian machinery. “Given the robust development of tourism and infrastructure in Dagestan, the services of Belarusian construction workers, including bridge and road builders, could come in handy for the Russian region,” Dmitry Matusevich believes.

Sergei Melikov wrote in his Telegram channel that Dagestan seeks to establish steady contacts with the flagship of the Belarusian mechanical engineering complex, Minsk Tractor Works. “We are working on the purchase of the company's machinery for our manufacturing industry,” the post reads.

Dmitry Matusevich met with Sergei Melikov during the meeting of the collegiums of the State Property Committee and the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography (Rosreestr).
