Belarus, China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region discuss cooperation in agriculture

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) - Belarusian-Chinese cooperation in the agricultural sector were discussed at a business meeting between Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Linevich and a delegation of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The parties identified priority areas for building the potential of mutually beneficial relations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The Chinese delegation is headed by He Zhongyou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The representative delegation also includes Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan, specialists and company executives.

"Over the long years of cooperation with China, we have forged strong and friendly relations. You are our important trade and economic partner in the agriculture and food sector," Anatoly Linevich noted. "We have made certain headway in cooperation. For example, we have opened a new regular flight Minsk - Urumqi - Minsk which will connect Belarus and northwest China. I am sure that this will contribute to both tourism and economic cooperation."

Trade between Belarus and China is growing. So is the range of supplied products. Earlier the list included meat and milk, nowadays it also contains confectionery, chocolate, drinks, and others. In general, the Belarusian side is ready for mutual cooperation in various areas, from culture and science to trade and economic interaction, and is willing to increase supplies of various food products.

He Zhongyou expressed gratitude to Belarus for hospitality and warm welcome. Outlining the purpose of the visit, he emphasized the importance of implementing the instructions given during the meetings of the two heads of state. He also stressed the need to strengthen friendly economic relations.

"At the moment, we ensure comprehensive strategic cooperation between the countries. This time I have led a delegation to reach specific agreements. For example, in winter we can supply a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables to Belarus," He Zhongyou said. The Chinese side pointed out its readiness to cooperate in advanced methods of seed selection and plant breeding and exchange of best practices in the use of clean energy for agriculture.
