MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) — This year trade with geographically distant China may exceed that with the neighboring European Union, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said during the ninth Belt and Road Summit in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China on 12 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We are reorienting our trade towards Asia and are happy that China has become Belarus' second biggest trade partner in the world. This year, our trade with the distant China may exceed that with the neighboring European Union," the minister stressed.
He went on saying: "Belarus looks to the future with confidence in the Eurasian context and within the framework of Belt and Road Initiative. Belarus sets even more ambitious goals for itself. For example, we plan to unite the industrial development of our country and with China's. While the West is trying to push Chinese technologies out at false pretexts, we will show an example of their large-scale application in Europe. The same applies to other spheres: from education to traditional Chinese medicine."
Maksim Ryzhenkov pointed out that Belarus is confident in success thanks to, among other things, the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, which is China's largest foreign project located in Belarus. Chinese President Xi Jinping described the park as "a pearl of the Silk Road Economic Belt", as it embodies the essence and philosophy of the Belt and Road Initiative itself.
"It is a Chinese-Belarusian park, but it is open for investors from any country in the world. It offers them unique favorable conditions based on the best Chinese practices. In fact, the park is our joint visible contribution to building a single global community," the minister summarized.
