Belarus, China to set up legal entities for joint manufacture

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Belarus and China will set up legal entities to manufacture products using joint developments, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus Sergei Shlychkov told the media, BelTA has learned.

"We have many areas of successful cooperation in science and technology with China. This year, 35 joint projects are coming to an end in the most relevant for our country areas: industry, healthcare, biotechnology, information and communication technologies (ICT). Everything is at a high international level," Sergei Shlychkov said.

Previously, the heads of government of Belarus and China approved a list of new joint science and technology projects, the financing of which in 2024-2026 has been authorized. The list includes 20 projects in ICT, biotechnology and medicine, machine building, and new materials.

"Apart from joint research and development projects, we have decided with our Chinese colleagues to implement more significant, larger-scale projects. For this purpose, we will use the following formula: based on the results of joint research and development projects we will set up joint legal entities, which will be used to manufacture products to enter the Belarusian, Chinese markets and may be even the markets of third countries. The prospects are very good. We hope that in other sectors of our economy there will be projects on par with BelGee," Sergei Shlychkov noted.

He also gave examples of joint developments. They include medical robots, various composites, resins, which are used in industry for production and other purposes, production of various components with thin walls made of hard processed metals in machine building.

"As far as ICT is concerned, another technological revolution related to artificial intelligence is underway. China has significant experience in this area," Sergei Shlychkov added.

He also emphasized that joint work with China in science and innovation contributes to ensuring Belarus' technological sovereignty.
The commission on cooperation in science and technology of the Belarus-China Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation holds a meeting every two years. Last time the meeting was held on 23 August 2024. On the same day, Belarus and China gave a start to the year of cooperation between the two countries in science, technology and innovation (2024-2025).
