Belarus-China cooperation in trade, economy developing at accelerated pace

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and China is developing at an accelerated pace, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said during a meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova as the ambassador is completing his diplomatic mission, BelTA has learned.
“The time of my work in Belarus coincided with a special period in the relations between the two countries. Under the strategic leadership of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chinese President Xi Jinping, China-Belarus relations have maintained good dynamics and reached an unprecedentedly high level of all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership,” the ambassador said. “Both countries firmly support each other in core interests and important concerns, jointly protecting the UN-centered international system and international order based on international law. We also work together to protect the sovereignty, security, development interests of both sides, international justice and equality.”

The ambassador pointed out that trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and China is developing at an accelerated pace. “Last year, bilateral trade reached a new high of $8.4 billion, almost three times as high as when I assumed office,” he said. “Recently, the two countries have signed an agreement on investment and trade in services, which provides both sides with great opportunities to further expand the scope of cooperation and come up with new models of interaction.”

Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong emphasized that he was very impressed with the way the two countries helped, supported each other and jointly overcame difficulties in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. "Using military aviation, Belarus immediately sent a total of about 40 tonnes of pandemic-related aid to China twice. China consistently provided assistance to Belarus amounting to about 130 tonnes of pandemic-related aid and over five million doses of vaccines, which clearly demonstrated the true meaning of the proverb: A friend in need is a friend indeed,” he added.
