BREST, 5 March (BelTA) – Brest Oblast intends to increase export to European states and distant-arc countries, Sergei Telezhinsky, the head of the foreign economic relations and investment department at the Economy Committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, told BelTA.
The Brest regional authorities have approved a list of international trade shows in foreign countries, the expenses on participation in which will be compensated from the state budget. The document was published on the Belarusian National Legal Internet Portal on 5 March. The list includes 33 exhibition and trade fairs. Regional exporters have participated in some of these events. The list features the events mainly in new areas of foreign economic activities for regional producers.
More than a half of the events relate to the food industry. There are foodstuff trade shows in Japan, China, Vietnam, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Oman, France, Poland, the USA and the UAE. The list also includes multisectoral trade shows in Cuba, the Republic of South Africa, Algeria, Angola, Syria, Armenia and Tajikistan. The international agrarian trade shows in Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia and Iraq, the industrial trade shows in Pakistan and the Federal Republic of Germany, the Premium Berlin and the Who's Next Paris fashion trade shows are recommended for participation.
“The list is based on the proposals of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Center for Marketing and Price Study and Brest regional enterprises. They can apply for participation to the Brest Oblast Executive Committee during the year. Decree No.412 envisages the compensation for participation in an international trade show up to 1,000 base amounts. The decision on compensation will be taken on a case-by-case basis,” Sergei Telezhinsky noted.
Brest Oblast increased export by 9% to a total of $2.6 billion in 2019, posting a surplus of more than $840 million. The export to the Eurasian Economic Union states accounted for 74.4% and to Russia for 68.5%. The share of the EU in the export reached 14.6% ($379.3 million, up by 8.6%). Other countries accounted for 11% of the total export ($284.1 million, up by 15.6%).
