BREST, 20 May (BelTA) – Brest Oblast Governor Yuri Shuleiko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan in Brest on 20 May, BelTA has learned.
“We should step up bilateral economic cooperation to make Belarusian regions, including Brest Oblast, more recognizable in Pakistan. So far, we export food products and buy light industry products. This is not enough. We should meet more often and plan our concrete steps,” Yuri Shuleiko believes.
Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan is in Brest Oblast on a visit. This is the first region on Belarus he is visiting since being appointment ambassador to Belarus. The program of the trip is busy. The ambassador has already visited several enterprises and met with representatives of the Brest Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and around 20 entrepreneurs.
“We are satisfied with the results. Belarus and Pakistan should organize more activities in various fields, not only in trade. It is important to advance cooperation in culture and education. Belarus and Pakistan have many areas of mutual interest,” Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan said. “At the meeting with local businessmen, we decided that we want to develop ties in such fields as the light industry, the food industry, and high technologies,” he added.
The parties also discussed arranging a visit of Pakistan's delegation to Brest Oblast to explore the region and the terms of operation in the free economic zone Brest. Representatives of Pakistan also intend to arrange art exhibitions in Belarusian regions. They are also eager to take part in other cultural events in Belarus. Yuri Shuleiko invited the ambassador to events to mark the beginning of the Great Patriotic War due in the Brest Fortress on 22 June. Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan accepted the invitation.
