MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Enterprises affiliated with the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom should produce more import-substituting products, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko said at a session of the board of the concern on 12 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.
Igor Lyashenko emphasized that last year Bellesbumprom performed much better than many other organizations. He noted that the enterprises of the concern, unlike the oil and gas sector, have their own resources to make products. “Therefore, it is very important today to maintain stability and good economic performance in your industry,” the vice premier said.
Among the tasks that will be in focus is the production of import-substituting products. Igor Lyashenko informed that a high-level session is to be held in March to discuss this matter.
The vice premier urged the enterprises of the concern to analyze what imported component parts and raw materials they use and to replace them with Belarus-made products if possible. This process should be approached in a smart and reasonable way,” Igor Lyashenko said.
According to Bellesbumprom, in 2019 the enterprises affiliated with the concern manufactured $530.5 million worth of import-substituting products, up 9.3% year-on-year. In 2020 the output of such products is to increase by another $30 million up to $560 million.
