Belarus, Azerbaijan seek closer cooperation in industry, agriculture

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Azerbaijan are showing interest in deepening cooperation in the industrial and agricultural sectors, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Sivets told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova began a visit to Belarus on 9 June. The delegation is expected to hold bilateral talks with the leadership of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and visit a number of trade and industrial facilities, cultural and educational institutions,” Sergei Sivets said.

“Both Belarusian and Azerbaijani MPs are focused on the progress made in the implementation of the agreements between the leaders of our countries Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev reached during the state visit of the Belarusian president to Azerbaijan in May 2024. First of all, they are related to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, deepening of cooperation in the industrial and agricultural sectors of the economy, cooperation and interaction on the international agenda and within the framework of integration associations in which our countries participate,” the MP emphasized. “We will discuss the implementation of the most important and topical issues of bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues, options for creating the most favorable legal environment for interaction of both economic entities of the two countries and citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Belarus, as well as the most interesting from the point of view of legal regulation issues related to the expansion and deepening of contacts at the bilateral level.”

Belarusian MPs actively cooperate with their Azerbaijani colleagues on the platforms of such inter-parliamentary structures as the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. With Azerbaijan's presidency in the Non-Aligned Movement, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan took the initiative to establish a parliamentary network of the Non-Aligned Movement. Belarusian MPs joined the new inter-parliamentary structure. The delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus was headed by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova. The MPs are actively involved in monitoring election campaigns in Belarus and Azerbaijan.
