Belarus aims to produce 9.2m tonnes of milk in 2025

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) - Belarus expects to increase milk production up to 9.2 million tonnes in 2025, head of the main department of livestock breeding and fisheries activities at the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry Natalia Sonich told the media on the sidelines of the international forum "Agriculture of Belarus. Dairy Farm", BelTA has learned.



“We have set a target of gross milk production at 8.68 million tonnes in 2024. For 2025 we are to meet the target of 9.2 million tonnes. As for milk yield per cow, this year we expect this figure to exceed 6,000kg this year,” Natalia Sonich said.

According to her, the plans are to increase the productivity of the dairy herd, improve breeding work, feeding formula, and reproduction. “We have already developed action plans as part of the Year of Quality. We have set the task to increase the production of milk of extra grade, improve the marketability (sales to dairies). According to operative information, milk marketability in some regions is more than 92%, and there are farms where it reaches 95-96%. We are also working to increase the average weight of cattle when selling to meat processing plants,” the representative of the Agriculture and Food Ministry said.



Belarus sells livestock and dairy products to more than 100 countries. “The main market is Russia. We also supply to African countries, Cuba and other markets. Our assortment is growing every year,” Natalia Sonich added.
