ST. PETERSBURG, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus is the biggest trading partner of St. Petersburg among CIS countries, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said at the Belarus-St. Petersburg Business Cooperation Council meeting on 25 October, BelTA has learned.
“The allied relations between our countries are at their peak today. Close interaction between the leaders of our states gives impetus to partnerships across the board. Cooperation with Belarus is a priority for the St. Petersburg government. We collaborate in many areas. Within a short period of time, we have achieved significant results in absolutely all areas - industry, culture, and general education. We are results-oriented. Our dialogue is a paragon of cooperation with foreign partners,” said Alexander Beglov. Cooperation in healthcare, sports, and culture is also gaining momentum.
He noted that St. Petersburg is working hard to expand trade and economic ties with Belarus. “Your country ranks first among all CIS countries in terms of trade with our city. And our trade is on the rise and we need to keep it up,” the governor noted.
“We have chosen the most optimal format of relations - integration and cooperation. We are not competitors and not just trading partners - we invest in the development of our joint production. This gives us competitive advantages when it comes to the supply of products to St. Petersburg and also other regions of Russia and other states. We have agreed that we will scale up the localization of our production,” Alexander Beglov noted.
He emphasized that Belarusian products are in high demand in St. Petersburg, including high-quality food products - milk, meat, eggs. For its part, St. Petersburg is increasing the supply of metal and engineering products to Belarus.
