MOSCOW, 9 December (BelTA) – Belarus' Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko provided more detail on the agreements reached by the presidents of Belarus and Russia in Sochi on 7 December regarding the delivery of Belarusian food products to Russia as he spoke to the media on 9 December, BelTA has learned.

“Following the lengthy talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed that the right to suspend exports of, for example, meat or dairy products belongs to the chief veterinary officer of Belarus. If there are any controversial issues, they should be discussed by, for example, the joint collegium of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. Maybe we should set up a body of the kind in the Eurasian Economic Commission. For the time being we decided to have it only in the Union State,” he said.

The ambassador noted that now the parties should formalize the arrangements reached. "To make sure these are not just words, we should clearly spell out how this mechanism should work,” he stressed.

Vladimir Semashko added that this work should be completed before the meeting of the presidents of Belarus and Russia in St. Petersburg on 20 December.
