Ambassador: China is against unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – China opposes any forms of unilateral sanctions and the long-arm jurisdiction that run afoul of international law, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said in an interview with BelTA.

“Economic sanctions will not address security problems, instead they will disrupt the normal life of people in the countries concerned, undermine the global market and further exacerbate the global economic slowdown,” the diplomat said.

He commented on the importance of cooperation with Belarus: “In recent years, thanks to the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, China-Belarus relations have maintained a good momentum, while bilateral cooperation has yielded good results in various fields.

According to Xie Xiaoyong, China-Belarus cooperation has good prospects. He noted that China will continue to deepen business contacts with Belarus based on equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect.
