Almost 90% of area under millet cleared in Belarus

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Belarusian agricultural workers have gathered in millet from 89.3% of the area under this crop, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

Belarusian agricultural enterprises have harvested cereals and leguminous crops (including maize) from 2.172 million hectares, which is 88% of the targeted area. Progress was at 89.8% (361,000ha) in Brest Oblast, 98.4% (351,800ha) in Vitebsk Oblast, 84.4% (352,400ha) in Gomel Oblast, 87.7% (311,900ha) in Grodno Oblast, 84.7% (458,000ha) in Minsk Oblast, and 85.2% (337,000ha) in Mogilev Oblast. All in all, 8.048 million tonnes of grain was threshed by agricultural enterprises and private farms.

Maize has been harvested from an area of 8,530ha, producing 64,900 tonnes with the average yield at 76.2 centners per hectare. Rapeseed has been harvested from an area of 357,800ha (99.7% of the area under this crop), producing 907,300 tonnes with the average yield at 25 centners per hectare.

Millet has been harvested from an area of 10,700ha (89.3% of the area under this crop), producing 22,800 tonnes with the average yield at 21.4 centners per hectare. Buckwheat has been harvested from an area of 30,300ha (87.5% of the area under this crop), producing 41,000 tonnes with the average yield at 13.5 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet has been harvested from 17,700ha, which makes up 18.9% of the targeted area. Potatoes have been harvested from 10,040ha (38.6% of the target area). Other vegetables have been harvested from 2,850ha or 42.1% of the targeted area.

Winter grain was sown on 701,200 hectares, which is 45.7% of the plan, including winter barley on 130,400 hectares.
