MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Agricultural products and food account generate a fifth of Belarus’ exports, Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee Inna Medvedeva said as she met with representatives of agricultural organizations in Gorki District, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Statistical Committee.

In the run-up to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Inna Medvedeva compared agricultural production before and after the war. For example, the pre-war level of agricultural output was restored only in 1956, and in 1960 it increased by 25% over 1940.

“In the post-war years, a lot of effort was invested in increasing the gross grain output: by 1970 it amounted to 3,806,000 tonnes, while in 1943 it was only 87,000 tonnes. The number of cattle in 1970 reached 5,383,000 head, while in 1943 it was only 120,000 head. Today, Belarus is fully self-sufficient in agricultural products. Self-sufficiency in milk is 283%, meat - 135%, eggs - 123%, potatoes - 111%, vegetables and gourds - 103%. Agricultural products and food account for a fifth of the country’s total exports. We need to maintain momentum and even take it up a notch for the good of future generations,” Inna Medvedeva said.

The participants of the meeting discussed primary reporting in agricultural organizations of the district, the reliability of primary statistical data. The head of the National Statistical Committee emphasized the importance  of compliance with requirements and accuracy of reporting. Inna Medvedeva also visited the Goretskoye agricultural enterprise.
