MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – A cooperation agreement between Lada OMC Engineering and hotel operator Accor (France) has been signed in Minsk City Hall as part of the investment project to construct a multifunctional community-shopping-hotel center in Mayakovskogo Street in Minsk, BelTA has learnt.
The document was signed by Director of Lada OMC Engineering Alexei Vaganov and Chief Operating Officer for Accor Russia Alexis Delaroff.
Accor will operate two hotels in Minsk – Novotel (that will be located in the multifunctional community-shopping-hotel center in Mayakovskogo Street) and Mercure (Torgovaya Street). The relevant investment agreements with Minsk City Hall have already been concluded.
During the talks in Minsk City Hall, Minsk Mayor Nikolai Ladutko welcomed the decision to erect the two hotels in the capital city. He noted that this will be a remarkable contribution to the infrastructure of Minsk that will play host to the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championships. Alexis Delaroff assured that Accor is interested in long-term projects. “We come for a long while and bring the best practices in international hotel management,” he said. He believes that it is medium-class hotels, like Novotel and Mercure, that will be most popular in Minsk.
In an interview to journalists Alexei Vaganov said that the future hotels will have their own features, but will be similar in one thing. They will provide international-class services. “Clients who will book rooms in these hotels can expect the full range of services offered by Accor,” said Alexei Vaganov. Novotel will have 180 rooms, Mercure 186. Novotel will have one-day medical surgery facilities, offices, shops, a fitness center, and spacious meeting rooms. The trademark of the hotel will be a large swimming pool, which will be open to general public as well. An English company will be invited to lay out a landscape park around the hotel.
The construction of the hotels is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2012. They are expected to open by the 2014 IIHF World Championships.
“The contracts have been signed for 30 years. These are the first major contracts in the hotel business,” said Alexei Vaganov. The total investments in the two hotels are estimated at $70 million.
Accor is the world’s largest hotel operator. All in all, Accor represents more than 4,000 hotels in 90 countries, including 14 hotels in the CIS countries.
