Every year harvesting in Mogilev District (the agro-town of Polykovichi) starts with the Zazhinki rite. Women wearing traditional clothing come out in a field first. Using sickles they cut nine sheaves, bind them into one and decorate with ribbons and towels. Then they bring a loaf of bread, break a piece off it and put it inside to thank the field and the land for the harvest.
