MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 142 Olga Govortsova lost to Ukraine's world number seven Elina Svitolina 3-6, 3-6 in the round of Last 16 at the 2020 Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, BelTA has learned.
Olga Govortsova came through two qualifying matches to reach the main draw. The Belarusian advanced into the second round after seeing off world number 131 Caroline Dolehide of the United States 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Elina Svitolina will next face Canada's world number 126 Leylah Fernandez. Belarus' world number 56 Victoria Azarenka lost 2-6, 2-6 to Slovenia's world number 71 Tamara Zidansek in the opening match.
In the Lyon Open round of Last 16 the Belarusian duo of Vera Lapko and Lidziya Marozava lost to Slovakia's Viktoria Kuzmova and Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk 2-6, 4-6. In the first round the Belarusian players defeated Brazil's Laura Pigossi and Rosalie Van Der Hoek of the Netherlands 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).
The competitions in Monterrey and Lyon will be over on 8 March.
