Belarusian wrestlers secure nine medals at European U23 Championships
MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes won nine medals at the European U23 Wrestling Championships held in Zrenjanin, Serbia, BelTA has learned.
Over 400 athletes from 37 countries took part in the tournament, with 26 competitors representing Belarus. The Belarusian team brought home five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, finishing second in the overall medal standings. In freestyle wrestling, Magomedkhan Magamedkhanov (65 kg) claimed victory, while in Greco-Roman wrestling Abubakar Khaslakhanau (97kg) took silver and Illia Valeuski (82kg) earned bronze.
Belarus’ women’s team became the strongest on the continent (4-1-1). European U23 champion titles were won by Aryna Martynava (57 kg), Kseniya Tsiarenia (65kg), Alina Shauchuk (68kg), and Viktoryia Radzkova (72kg). Marta Hetmanava (59kg) secured silver, and Sviatlana Katenka (50kg) took bronze.
The senior European Championships will be held in Albania from 20 to 26 April.
