Belarus’ Sharankou finishes fourth at European Weightlifting Championships

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Siarhei Sharankou finished just off the podium at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Georgia, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian weightlifter competed in -110 kg weight category. In his best attempts in the first and second lifts, Sharankou lifted 181 kg and 220 kg respectively. His total of 401 kg earned him fourth place. His attempts at 185 kg in the snatch and 224 kg in the clean and jerk were unsuccessful. Siarhei was 11 kg behind Bulgaria’s Hristo Hristov, who claimed bronze. The gold medal went to Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan with a total of 415 kg.
With one day remaining before the conclusion of the continental forum in Batumi, the Belarusian weightlifting team has nine medals (two golds, four silvers, three bronzes). On the final day of the European Championships, Belarusian Alena Bondzikava (+86kg) will take the stage.
