Azarenka loses in Indian Wells final

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus' Victoria Azarenka lost to Paula Badosa of Spain 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-7 (2-7) in the Indian Wells final, BelTA has learned.

The final match lasted for three hours and five minutes. Previously, Victoria Azarenka won the Indian Wells event in 2012 and 2016. The Belarusian has so far won 21 WTA titles.

On the way to the 2021 Indian Wells final Victoria Azarenka defeated Poland's world number 54 Magda Linette, world number 11 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, Belarus' world number 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich, world number 24 Jessica Pegula of the United States and Latvia's world number 24 Jelena Ostapenko.

With the appearance in the final, Victoria Azarenka improved her WTA rankings rising to World No.26.
