2018 Olympic Games organizers announce 17 more norovirus cases

Pyeongchang, 12 February (BelTA) - Organizers of the 2018 Olympic Games confirmed 17 new cases of norovirus, nine in PyeongChang and eight Gangneung, BelTA learned from the press service of the winter games.

“The situation is under control. Forty-seven people are currently quarantined, the other 147 have been released from quarantine,” the organizing committee informed.

All in all, 194 people were affected by the norovirus which is considered highly contagious and typically includes symptoms of diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting and nausea. A bulk of those impacted by the outbreak were security staff of the Olympic Games.

No athlete has been reported to have contracted the virus.
