Warsaw seeks larger U.S. military presence in Poland

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Poland is negotiating with the United States to increase the U.S. military contingent in the country, Poland's Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on the air of RMF24 radio.

“The matter is not only about maintaining the quota [number of troops] in Poland, but also about increasing it,” the minister said. He emphasized that “the Polish strategy is unchanged.”

Deputy Minister of Defense Paweł Zalewski of Poland confirmed that Warsaw is negotiating with the Pentagon to increase the U.S. “military potential” in the country. He added that “Poland’s main objective is to strengthen the U.S. presence, especially on the eastern flank.”

Approximately 10,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Poland.
