US analyst on Middle East conflict: No one will win this war

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – Iran has a peaceful nuclear program, but Israel seeks regime change in that country. This is why the war is being unleashed, military analyst and former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on the air of the First News TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

“The US foreign policy and national security policy in the Middle East are shaped according to Israel’s desires, fears, and objectives. We didn’t need to invade Iraq. I spent a long time in Iraq and worked with Saddam Hussein’s government. The reality was that they were ready to cooperate with the United States, to do whatever was necessary to satisfy the United States. But it wasn’t about satisfying the USA – it was about satisfying Israel. And Israel was not satisfied as long as Saddam Hussein remained in power, so we had to change the regime there,” Scott Ritter said.

He added that he had been to Iran and met with the Iranian president and foreign minister. “You know what concerns America? Oil and energy, because all of that is tied to the dollar. Iran’s nuclear program is a peaceful nuclear program. We know this. The US director of national intelligence has stated that there is no nuclear weapons program. We know this, the whole world knows this. But Israel wants regime change in Iran, and therefore Israel imposes its will on the United States. That is why we are once again going to unleash a terrible war in the Middle East – a war that will be destabilizing, destructive, and will end badly for everyone,” the former US intelligence officer said.

According to him, such a conflict would destabilize BRICS, Russia’s North-South transport corridor, and China’s New Silk Road.

“No one will win this war,” Scott Ritter concluded.
