Serving the forest, serving Belarus: Delegate of Belarusian People’s Congress on his life path

Vladimir Gutkovsky knows the forest deeply. As a child, he played there and learned from his father and grandfather, both foresters. Today he is chief forester of the Slutsk Forestry Enterprise, a member of the Council of Deputies, and a delegate to the VII Belarusian People’s Congress.
Born in the village of Omgovichi in Slutsk District, Vladimir Gutkovsky grew up surrounded by the forest. His father worked as a forester for 43 years and often took him along.
Hunting became Vladimir’s passion: “It’s a special world. Silence broken by dogs searching for game, the excitement of the process. My first catch was a roe deer, and I still remember it.” He is glad that people now treat the forest more carefully.
Election as a delegate to the Belarusian People’s Congress was one of the most emotional moments of his life. “It was a huge surprise that I was chosen to participate in such a representative body. Becoming a delegate was a great responsibility. I had heard a lot about previous sessions of the Congress and seen them on television. Hundreds of delegates, the country’s leadership, a festive atmosphere. But I could never have imagined that I’d be part of it. You feel like a necessary link in an important process,” he noted.
