Police reminds about prohibition against direct trade in foreign currency between citizens

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Posts about web resources designed to help people sell and buy foreign currency without intermediaries have appeared in social networks and instant messengers, BelTA learned from Press Secretary of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry Olga Chemodanova.

The Internal Affairs Ministry would like to remind the public that natural persons can buy or sell foreign currency only via licensed banking institutions. Natural persons cannot trade in foreign currency directly between each other. Such actions are punishable by a fine of 50-150 base amounts (one base amount equals Br27 at present) and the seizure of the assets involved in the administrative offence.

The same actions that are repeated within one year of the first offence are punishable by a fine of 150-200 base amounts and the seizure of assets. The Internal Affairs Ministry reminded that in addition to fines for sellers and buyers the illegal buyers risk buying counterfeit money.
