New rules on European bison protection in Belarus to kick in on 1 January

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – New rules on the protection and efficient management of the European bison will come into effect in Belarus on 1 January 2021 in line with the Council of Ministers' Resolution No.708 of 7 December 2020 that was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on 11 December, BelTA has learned.

The rules regulate the procedure and terms for adding bison to the main gene pool or the reserve gene pool, the protection measures, the procedure and terms for taking bison out of the wild, and the hunting of bison of the reserve gene pool.

In line with the resolution, record books on the bison of the reserve gene pool kept before the document takes effect, should be conducted until their full use and stored for five years from the last entry about the exclusion of a bison from the record book on bison of the reserve gene pool.

The document will come into force on 1 January 2021.
