NATIV bureau: Israeli, Belarus share memory of horrors of war

VOLOZHIN, 8 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Israel share the memory of the horrors of the war, Alon Shoham, Director of the NATIV Liaison Bureau of the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, told BelTA as he visited the Volozhin yeshiva on 8 May.

“We are here in fact because we share the common memory of the horrors of war and of freedom. We are here to remind ourselves and others of this day of 9 May,” emphasized Alon Shoham, who used to be Israel's Ambassador to Belarus.

The guests toured the expositions of the yeshiva, including the history of the first higher spiritual school in Eastern Europe for training rabbis.

Yeshiva is a Jewish higher religious school for training rabbis. It was opened in Volozhin in 1803. During its heyday, it trained more than 400 students from all over the world. 37 graduates held the position of chief rabbis in different countries of the world.
