Ministry: Forest fire in Grodno District posed no threat to populated areas

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) - Workers from the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the forestry service have extinguished a forest fire in Grodno District, and there is no threat to populated areas, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

According to Dmitry Lakiza, head of the Grodno Oblast Emergencies Management Directorate, the fire in the forest near the village of Uzberezh has been contained. There is no threat to populated areas. Dry and windy conditions contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
As of now, the Emergencies Ministry aviation has made 15 water drops (45 tonnes of water). Also continuing to work at the fire site are 21 units of equipment and 91 personnel, including 5 pieces of Emergencies Ministry equipment and 22 rescuers.
