Lithuanian PM: Poland will delay reopening of checkpoints on Belarus’ border 

 

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė told reporters that Warsaw agreed to postpone the reopening of border checkpoints with Belarus,  RMF24 reports.

According to her, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk agreed to postpone the opening of Poland’s border crossings with Belarus. Inga Ruginienė noted that the decision was made following yesterday’s consultations between the two countries’ leaders.

“During a telephone conversation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he is postponing the decision on checkpoints. We will continue to coordinate our actions,” she said.

On 29 October, the Lithuanian government decided to keep the country’s border crossings with Belarus closed for the next month. Prior to this, on 28 October, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Warsaw is preparing to open two border crossings with Belarus – Bobrowniki and Kuźnica – in November. The Kuźnica border crossing was closed in November 2021, and the Bobrowniki crossing was closed in February 2023.
