Historian on why world is spinning into chaos

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Russian historian, Director of the Institute for Systemic and Strategic Analysis Andrei Fursov commented on global political processes in a recent episode of BelTA’s V Teme [On Point] project.

Discussing the current situation in the world, the analyst pointed to the abundance of conflicts across various continents. Besides those making headlines, there are tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and others. “There are more and more conflicts in the world. Moreover, there will be even more,” he said.

In such an environment, people might think the world has completely lost its mind. “This is especially true for the older generation, those now in their 60s and 70s. They still remember the time when two great superpowers, the Soviet Union and the United States controlled their respective spheres. The world seemed stable, but logically, when the Soviet Union left the stage, the balancing mechanism also disappeared. At the same time, US hegemony is weakening. They can no longer control all processes. That is why there are more conflicts in the world. The ‘police’ has weakened, so there will be more ‘hooligans’, and they will behave ever more brazenly,” Andrei Fursov emphasized.

“Indeed, from the outside, this looks like chaos, and not just from the outside, it partly is chaos. Chaos is always a phase of transition from one system to another. The question then is: what kind of order will be born from this chaos, and who will control it?” he said, outlining the topic for analysis.
