Gomel Oblast to invest more in manufacturing under Chernobyl program
MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast will increase investment in the manufacturing sector under a Chernobyl program. Dmitry Rutkovsky, Head of the Main Directorate for Eliminating the Consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Catastrophe of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, mentioned it in BelTA’s project The Nation Speaks.
Investing in the development of the districts is one of the priorities of the social and economic block of the Chernobyl program. “Since the affected territories have a pronounced agricultural profile, the bulk of resources are channeled into agribusiness. In the past five years alone we built and reconstructed five large dairy complexes, several grain drying complexes, and launched a pig-breeding complex. This creates a foundation for attracting additional investments,” Dmitry Rutkovsky noted.
“When we talk to residents, their needs are simple and clear: they need work, decent wages, housing, access to medical care, and the ability to send their children to school. In his words, these are exactly the tasks that the program addresses,” he pointed out.
“Investments under the Chernobyl program have also gone into modernizing the dairy industry in Khoiniki: the unique cheeses produced over there are successfully exported. A reinforced concrete products plant in Khoiniki has also been reconstructed. It now produces modern reinforced concrete products, including for building housing for young specialists. A project for processing tires and producing materials from rubber crumbs has been implemented in Chechersk. We also selectively participate in new initiatives: this year we are considering supporting the Krasny Mozyryanin enterprise, which has already launched pastille production, and we are preparing to implement another project,” Dmitry Rutkovsky said.
Active work is also underway on regional initiatives. “The flow of investment stays in place and will be increased. While the first four of the six state programs were mainly aimed at the rehabilitation of the territories, the last two as well as current measures have shifted the focus to sustainable social and economic development,” he emphasized.
