Expert names Belarusian dishes most popular with foreigners

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) - Kanan Guluzade, Advisor to the Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, shared his thoughts on which Belarusian dishes are the most popular among foreign visitors in an interview with the First News TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

“First of all, draniki and borscht. I also really like the way you prepare fish. If I had to name three dishes I enjoy the most, those would be the ones. You make excellent meat dishes, including very good cold appetizers (Belarusian zakuski). I could talk about your cuisine with the same enthusiasm as about Azerbaijani cuisine,” Kanan Guluzade noted.

He admitted that he has traveled across almost all of Belarus. “I really like the western part of Belarus, and I am quite familiar with the country’s culture and gastronomic traditions. I can talk a lot about the delicious things in your cuisine and about your culture in general,” the adviser added.

He also spoke about his favorite places in Belarus. “I like your castles in the west. I really like Grodno. I first visited Grodno as a child in 1988: that was my first trip to Belarus. I like Brest, and of course the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. [I like] your lakes and rivers. I can talk about Belarus for a very long time at tourism forums. When I am asked, I usually represent Azerbaijan, but if I have the opportunity, I always talk about your country as well. I like it very much. In fact, we have a lot in common: our history, the languages we speak, and friendly relations in politics, culture, and tourism. There are many things that have united us, that unite us today, and that will continue to unite us in the future. That is why we speak about Belarus with such warmth,” he concluded.
