Emergencies Ministry gets response from Lithuania about Ignalina nuclear power plant incident

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Emergencies Ministry has received a response from the Lithuanian side to a query about an incident in the territory of the Ignalina nuclear power plant, representatives of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry told BelTA.
The Emergencies Ministry said: “According to the message, combustion occurred in the air filtering unit of the bead blasting machine of the primary radioactive waste processing complex. The fire was extinguished, no people were hurt, no radioactive materials were leaked.”
According to a preliminary classification, it was an event below the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). No external assistance was required.
